Just a writer girl living her best life in Colorado…
Growing up in the pine tree forests of California’s Sierra Mountains I knew I wanted to be a writer. When no one was around to listen to me tell my stories, I would go outside and talk to the trees and animals and wind – because nature listens, especially to the imaginations of the wild born.
But as I grew into an adult, I tried to stifle my creativity. Being a lawyer or business woman would be much more sensible than a storyteller. Lawyers and business women, after all, have much much more power… at least that is what I told myself. But the late nights and early mornings – the blurry line separating reality from fiction – tugged at the loose fibers of my imagination. My heart, the inkwell of my soul, could not be dried and as a result I continued my written journey, but “just for myself” and “just for fun.”
However, once entering the University of Portland, I made a decision that changed my life. One day, while choking back tears, I approached my husband and told him I hated business – problem was, I was a business major. “Well that’s bad,” he said. And then, with his and my mother’s encouragement, I filled out the change in major form and changed my life. I decided to be a writer. I decided to listen to the call of literature.
So now I live in Colorado with my husband, 3 cats, 2 dogs and 3 chickens. And I have found happiness because I have found peace in being my wild, writing self. Currently I am working on my first novel (a piece of literary fiction), and I will update this page with my journey. In the meantime though, I hope you enjoy the writing prompts and book reviews I post on this site.
